Lotus Notes Traveler: push mail for Domino 8

I have previously written about the Dynamic Mobile Exchange (DME) and Funambol push mail solutions – and now IBM has announced that a push mail solution called IBM Lotus Notes Traveler will be part of the Domino server in the 8.01 release. This is very exciting news!

It looks like the push mail solution will be based on the Visto Mobile solution from Visto but Lotus Notes Traveler will only support Windows Mobile devices at first, in contrast to Visto Mobile that also supports Symbian, Palm OS, J2ME, WAP, HTML, and Imode – with support for the iPhone coming in Q3 2007.

Update: after re-reading the announcement and related material I need to correct myself. Lotus Notes Traveler will consist of a Domino server task meaning that a server in-between the mobile devices and the Domino server is not necessary (in contrast to e.g. the DME and Funambol solutions). Furthermore, Lotus Notes Traveler will consist of a new client that runs on Windows Mobile devices – and this client is not based on the Visto Mobile solution from Visto.

The tutorial includes the following articles:

Please notice that Michel created the website and the related articles during the course of a weekend! That just shows the rapid development possibilities of Lotus Domino.

Dojomino: Info and tutorials for using Dojo with Domino

Lance Spellman has created a site dedicated to using Dojo with Domino. Have a look at dojomino.com. Dojomino was featured in episode 62 of the Taking Notes podcast.

On a similar note: Viktor Krantz has created a post on how to create a sign in form directly on a Domino page using the Dojo toolkit. Very cool!
