New laptop from Zepto with Intel Santa Rosa technology

I have just ordered a brand new laptop for private use from the Danish laptop manufacturer Zepto. I decided on the Zepto Znote 6625WD that uses the latest chip set from Intel known as Santa Rosa. I configured the laptop to have the following specifications:

  • Chipset: Intel Centrino Duo (Mobile Intel PM965 Express)
  • CPU: 2.20 GHz Intel Core2 Duo T7500 800MHz
  • Memory: 2048MB (2×1024) DDR2 667/PC5300 SODIMM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT
  • Display: 15,4″ WSXGA+ 1680×1050
  • LAN: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG 54Mbit
  • HD: 120GB 7200rpm SATA Harddisk Hitachi
  • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate

I look forward to see how it compares to my work laptop: a standard Thinkpad T60. I expect that the Zepto Znote 6625WD will really outperform the T60.

This will also be my first time using Windows Vista for more than just installing a release candidate version in VMware 🙂

Update: this also means that I won’t be switching to an Apple Macbook Pro this time unlike others. I seriously considered trying a Mac but in the end decided to go for the Zepto and Vista.

Lotus Notes/Domino Best Practices

As already mentioned by Craig Lordan on the developerWorks Lotus team blog and again mentioned by Ed Brill, but still worth repeating, a series of best practices on Lotus Notes and Domino has been published for “Notes/Domino administrators, Notes/Domino application designers and IT managers with intermediate to advanced Domino experience who wish to better leverage Domino Best Practices within their environment“.

The best practices include:

The New Language of Business: SOA & Web 2.0

Sandy Carter has written a book on SOA entitled The New Language of Business: SOA & Web 2.0. The book offers best practices on SOA deployments based on interviews with people from companies that have been through successful SOA projects.

The book introduces a new term “flex-pon-sive”:

Flex-pon-sive* companies respond with lightning speed and agility to rapidly changing business needs. Flex-pon-sive* companies are focused on processes that are enabled for change through IT.
