Lotus Notes Traveler: push mail for Domino 8
September 19th, 2007I have previously written about the Dynamic Mobile Exchange (DME) and Funambol push mail solutions - and now IBM has announced that a push mail solution called IBM Lotus Notes Traveler will be part of the Domino server in the 8.01 release. This is very exciting news!
It looks like the push mail solution will be based on the Visto Mobile solution from Visto but Lotus Notes Traveler will only support Windows Mobile devices at first, in contrast to Visto Mobile that also supports Symbian, Palm OS, J2ME, WAP, HTML, and Imode - with support for the iPhone coming in Q3 2007.
Update: after re-reading the announcement and related material I need to correct myself. Lotus Notes Traveler will consist of a Domino server task meaning that a server in-between the mobile devices and the Domino server is not necessary (in contrast to e.g. the DME and Funambol solutions). Furthermore, Lotus Notes Traveler will consist of a new client that runs on Windows Mobile devices - and this client is not based on the Visto Mobile solution from Visto.

This is truly a good news. And we can even sync our address book, calendar, journal, and to do list not just email.
As you said this software must also support symbian, palm and linux mobile devices.
