XPages boilerplate: useful code snippets and modules for your next XPages project

When I start a new XPages project, I use lots of code snippets and modules from previous projects. Many of these code snippets and modules are open source or available on blog posts from fellow XPages bloggers. In this blog post I will list some of these useful code snippets and modules and hope that this will inspire you and help you enhance your next XPages project.

Useful code snippets and modules:

You can also take a look at the XPages Scaffolding project by Jesse Gallagher. At least look at the README.md file in which Jesse describes what’s included.

Of course, you should not forget all the useful libraries and tools available in OpenNTF Essentials (both in the Essentials Runtime and in Essentials Toolbox) such as the OpenNTF Domino API, XPages Debug Toolbar and XPages Log File Reader. Also of great value is Auto Logins which provides “remember me” functionality for your app.

Thanks, Bruce

Thank you Bruce for all you have done for OpenNTF and the community since 2001.

I have worked with you as a director on the OpenNTF board since October 2011. We have spoken together at IBM Connect 2013 on our open source project Collaboration Today.

You are a great friend and mentor and I always enjoy our chats and talks on Skype.

Good luck with your new adventure at Clark College.

OpenNTF webinars for the open source community

OpenNTF has announced a new initiative called OpenNTF Webinars.

The first webinar takes place tomorrow, Tuesday May 7, and is all about OpenNTF. Join the web meeting and hear Bruce Elgort, Serdar BasegmezJesse Gallagher, Niklas Heidloff, Peter Tanner and me talk about OpenNTF and about what OpenNTF can offer the open source community.

Future webinars will be announced at the webinar landing page.

Slides from SPOT104 “How We Built CollaborationToday.info in a Matter of Weeks”

Here is the presentation that Bruce Elgort and I used for our IBM Connect 2013 session called “How We Built CollaborationToday.info in a Matter of Weeks”.

Thanks to all that attended our session. It was a great experience for me as a 1st time speaker at IBM Connect/Lotusphere.

I have been re-elected for the OpenNTF board of directors

My term on the OpenNTF board of directors expired after 1 year, and I am happy to have been re-elected for a 2 year term service.

My 1st year on the board was an exciting year where I among many things helped with the judging of several contests (including the 1st XSnippets contest), helped setup even more demos, and was part of the team that implemented Collaboration Today.

I look forward to continue to help OpenNTF spread the use and knowledge of open source for the IBM Collaboration Solutions community.

Notes/Domino 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 1: Great news for XPages

Great news for XPages today: Notes/Domino 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 1 has just been released.

In short, Upgrade Pack 1 is an IBM supported version of the XPages Extension Library. This should help remove the fear of the Extension Library being open source that some customers have had, and thereby improve the adoption of XPages out there.

Upgrade Pack 1 is available on Passport Advantage as part number CI5HUEN.

I am a member director on the OpenNTF board of directors

As previously blogged my company PHL Consult and I support OpenNTF and open source. To further show my support I nominated myself for one of the 9 member director positions in the OpenNTF board of directors.

The board of directors for the newly incorporated OpenNTF has now been set and I am happy to have been elected to be part of the board (for one year). The new board had its first board meeting last Thursday and I look forward to be able to add value to OpenNTF.

PHL Consult supports OpenNTF and open source

My company, PHL Consult, became member of OpenNTF in August and thereby supports OpenNTF and the use of open source within the Lotus Domino/XPages community. This means that I support the idea of open source in general (and support OpenNTF as an organization) – and that I both contribute code to and reuse code from OpenNTF. I have so far contributed 2 open source XPages custom controls to OpenNTF:

At the time of writing this blog post OpenNTF has 23 company members. Members according to OpenNTF are “companies with the common interest to provide open source for IBM Lotus Notes and Domino and to encourage broad industry use of these applications. To achieve these goals members are willing to devote resources or participate in other ways”.

XPages Web Analytics custom control on OpenNTF

What a great weekend for open source contributions from me! 🙂 Yesterday I created the XPages SEO custom control – and today I have created a new XPages custom control for the OpenNTF development contest called XPages Web Analytics custom control: the custom control makes it easy to add web analytics to your XPages web site.

In the first release the custom control supports Google Analytics and Woopra Web Analytics.

In order to use the custom control you download it from OpenNTF, unzip the downloaded file and open the included Notes database. In the database you will find a custom control called “WebAnalytics” that you can include in your own XPages application. Once included you just drag the custom control to your XPage and add the custom properties for the specific web analytics providers that you would like to use.
