The second tutorial in the Hello World series has been posted on developerWorks: “Hello World, Part 2: Rational Application Developer“.
The tutorial “introduces you to IBM Rational Application Developer and highlights some of its basic features. It includes practical exercises that show how to create a Java application, create and invoke a Web service, and create a Web application that can access a Cloudscape database using a Relational Record List.“
Ed Brill is having a roll call for all IBMers reading his blog – so if you are an IBMer and you are reading Ed Brills blog then make yourself heard.
A tutorial for Rational Web Developer has been published: Visualize with Rational Web Developer. This tutorial will introduce you to “building, testing, and deploying Web, Web services, and Java applications” and show you how to “create a Web service, create a JavaServer Faces page, and link that page to a Service Data Object using the visual tools in Rational Web Developer.“
The 2006 Rational Software Development Conference is taking place these days in Orlando, Florida – and Kelly Drahzal from IBM Rational is blogging live from the conference.

Joachim Dagerot has published an article on developerWorks on using AJAX to manipulate Lotus Notes documents. From the article introduction:
Giving users instant feedback instead of the time-consuming page reloads they’re used to is simple when you use Ajax. Discover how a view and an agent can help you build Ajax-driven applications and learn how to define an API for getting the client and the Domino server to collaborate.
If Joachim is in the mood for an update to the article I would like to see how to do this using dojo as the Javascript Toolkit for the AJAX calls – especially considering the latest on IBM and dojo 🙂
Update: Joachim is in the mood and is asking for ideas on what to focus on with regards to Domino and dojo.
A very detailed troubleshooting guide to Domino server performance has been published on the IBM support pages. The guide takes you through CPU, memory, disk, and network performance issues and recommendations.
A 5 minute demo of Hannover – the future of Lotus Notes – is available.

Grady Booch is having his heart surgery today. Bill Higgins will be blogging on how Grady is doing at Gradys blog.
I wish Grady a speedy recovery.
Update May 31: Grady is online again from inside the Mayo Clinic and is sending his greetings.
Microsoft has just launched a community for IT architects called Skyscrapr. Skyscrapr is described as:
Skyscrapr is your window on the architectural perspective. Discover the different disciplines of system architecture, as well as perspectives on building successful systems. Check out our architects’ blogs, learn about industry trends, download webcasts, watch videos, find training, and more.
The site contains several blogs but I have trouble subscriping to the RSS feeds using Bloglines. Perhaps this is due to the site just recently being launched. The site looks promosing though and I plan to have a further look at the site later.
